At just 23 years old, Aliza Capen has already dedicated nearly half her life to serving others.

Since the age of 12, Aliza has been a steady presence at Frisco Family Services, volunteering alongside her grandmother every Wednesday. Over the years, she’s grown into one of the Market’s most reliable and enthusiastic volunteers, bringing with her not only compassion but also a deep commitment to uplifting others. Aliza also won this year's Volunteer of the Year at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.

Get to know more about Aliza...

“I started volunteering with my grandma, and I still do every Wednesday,” Aliza recalls. “I love working with other volunteers and seeing the impact we make on people’s lives.”

She’s lent her time to almost every corner of the organization, from the food pantry to community programs like the Thanksgiving drive, Back to School, Silver Bells, and the Holiday Store. Whether organizing shelves in the Market or helping distribute food to those in need, Aliza’s presence brings warmth and hope.

But it’s the moments of transformation that stay with her the most.

“My favorite memory is seeing clients no longer need services, because they’ve been able to get back on their feet,” she says. “It’s a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.”

Aliza sees her work at Frisco Family Services not just as service, but as something that has deeply shaped her character.

“You never know what someone could be going through. Volunteering has helped me better connect with people and understand that more deeply.”

With over a decade of impact behind her, Aliza looks to the future with hope, for both herself and the organization.

“I want to see Frisco Family Services continue to grow and help more people. There’s so much good here.”

And to anyone considering becoming a volunteer?

“You’ll enjoy it! There are so many different things to do, whether you want to sit at the front desk, sort donations, or help at events. Plus, the staff are incredible and will help you find where you fit best.”

Fun fact? Aliza isn’t just a powerhouse volunteer, she’s also a former competitive wakeboarder and ATVWMX racer. Proof that every volunteer brings their own unique strengths, and stories to our mission.
